What Paper Material do We Use for Custom Greaseproof Paper?

Personalised greaseproof paper is usually made from wood pulp processed in a specific way.

Pulp Refining:

Because the wood pulp is refined so that there is very little porosity (very few pin holes), the paper is almost entirely dense.

Supercalendering:

The paper is sent through hard pressure rollers. This keeps reducing porosity and gives the paper an even more condensed and glossy finish. The output is called glassine.

Surface Treatment:

The white greaseproof paper sheets are treated with products (i.e., starches, alginates, or carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)) to fill in the holes that remain, so the paper is resistant to oil and grease. Bleaching is also performed for white papers so they have a clean, bright finish.

The end product is made of paper that is impenetrable to oil and grease, and therefore usable for baking and food packaging.
